Environmental commitment

Mayfield takes its responsibility to the environment seriously.

  • We recently implemented a system to calculate the carbon footprint of any individual product in order that they can be offset on a job-by job-basis when required.
  • Our computer-to-plate system means our plates are produced without the use of volatile chemicals.
  • All of our litho process inks are vegetable oil based rather than mineral oil, minimising fossil-fuel oil use.
  • All of Mayfield’’s waste paper, (both inked and white paper) is collected and recycled.
  • All aluminium plates, pallets, cardboard, ink tins and most plastics are sorted, segregated and recycled.
  • Used press chemistry, ink waste, ink tins and obsolete computer equipment are collected by a specialist company, recycled where possible and where not possible, disposed of correctly.
  • Although we use a large amount of paper and other forest products within our business, we recognise our responsibility to have a neutral or positive impact on the world’s forests. Where possible we use products from an independently certified forestry source. We comply to the standards set by the two main bodies who represent environmental impact within the printing industry, the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) www.fsc.org and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes (PEFC) www.pefc.org and have received Chain of Custody Certificates from both.

In addition to FSC certification, Mayfield operates under the QMS ISO 14001 standard of environmental practice. Under this certificate we recognise the importance of environmental protection and are committed to operating our business responsibly, and in compliance with all legal requirements relating to the provision of commercial print and associated products/services

Inks

Recycling and waste disposal

All of Mayfield’’s waste paper, (both inked and white paper) is collected and recycled.

In addition, all aluminium plates, pallets, cardboard, ink tins and most plastics are sorted, segregated and recycled.

Used press chemistry, ink waste, ink tins and obsolete computer equipment are collected by a specialist company, recycled where possible and where not possible, disposed of correctly.

Carbon Neutrality

Mayfield Press has recently received the results of a study into the company’’s carbon footprint and is currently evaluating the best way to offset. We anticipate being able to calculate the carbon footprint of any individual product in order that they can be offset on a job-by job-basis when required.
